At the Gabba in Brisbane, the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Victoria is finely balanced after day two. Queensland reached 5-202 at stumps in reply to Victoria's 307, leaving the home side 105 runs behind with five wickets in hand. Jack Clayton is unbeaten on 99 and Hayden Kerr is 14 not out. Clayton faced 191 balls and hit eight fours, anchoring the Queensland innings after early wickets. He added 85 for the third wicket with Angus Lovell, who made 36 before being trapped lbw by Matt Hennig. Victoria captain Will Sutherland struck with his first delivery to bowl Hugh Weibgen and then had Hugo Burdon caught by Marcus Harris at third slip in the same over. Queensland slipped to 2-33 before Clayton and Lovell steadied the innings. Hennig later removed Lovell and Lachlan Hearne, while Todd Murphy dismissed Jimmy Peirson to leave Queensland at 5-174. Clayton and Kerr guided the side to stumps without further loss. Earlier, Victoria resumed on 9-282 and was bowled out for 307. Mitch Swepson dismissed Hennig for four, leaving Sutherland unbeaten on 43. Cameron Gannon took 5-66 and Jem Ryan claimed three wickets. The morning session on day three will be crucial, with Clayton one run away from a century and Queensland looking to close the gap.
